Effective leadership is extremely crucial in personal, business, community and organisational development.

Find out the single most important entity that can make or break any form of leadership in this very interesting video!

Here are the key lessons in summary:

~1. Stand up and stand out.

~2. Be easy to follow.

~3. Show others how to follow.

~4. Nurture your first followers.

~5. Focus on the movement.

My biggest takeaway each time I watch this is a reminder to nurture those early followers. For instance, on social media, by appreciating and responding to comments – which understandably can get harder as the ‘movement’ scales up.

In my view, the leader is actually both the leader and the first follower. When people follow their audacious dreams, eventually other followers who resonate with the experience will join the movement.

True leadership begins with self-leadership. However, at some point all leaders need resonance and support from others.

It would have been even better to see some kind of purpose for the movement or objectives achieved. For instance friendships formed afterwards or a follow up cause for community good.

What do you think? Are there other lessons we can learn from this? Share to inspire, educate and network.

Interesting video… Just goes to show how we’re constantly being influenced by dynamics we don’t even understand!

You’re right, Jenny. In a sense, there’s no such thing as sitting on the fence. We’re all ‘leading and following’ one way or the other.
